The Prince and Princess of Wales have now been married for over 13 years
Prince William and Kate Middleton has been married for over 13 years, yet there was a period when William guarded an immense secret from Kate.
The now Prince and Princess of Wales wed in April 2011 with the couple going on to have three children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Their engagement news broke in November 2010, followed by an intimate disclosure during an ITV interview with Tom Bradby about a Kenyan holiday which set the stage for Williams proposal.
The engagement saw him use the celebrated ring that once belonged to his mother, Princess Diana, reports the Mirror.
Speaking at the time, William said: “It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died. And when deciding where best to propose to Catherine, I could think of no more fitting place than Kenya to get down on one knee.”
The engagement came with weeks of covert secret-keeping though. William revealed for three weeks, he carried the significant ring, crafted by the Royal jeweller Garrard, until the momentous question was asked.
He said: “I knew if this thing disappeared, I’d be in a lot of trouble”.
There was a buzz of anticipation for William and Kate’s wedding, drawing a massive audience to their engagement interview. It was during this that she faced a tricky question from ITV News host Tom Bradby.
That led to Prince William interjecting and reassuring her. He said: “There’s no pressure though. There’s no pressure, like Kate said it is about carving your own future. No one is trying to fill my mother’s shoes, what she did was fantastic. It’s about making your own future and your own destiny and Kate will do a very good job of that.”
