Kate Middleton and Prince William are facing challenges with Prince George’s birthday tradition, finding it to be ‘noisy and time-consuming.’

The Prince and Princess of Wales are always determined to make birthdays special in their household – but Prince William struggles with one tradition.

Prince George is set to turn 11 on Monday, meaning that the Prince and Princess of Wales are likely gearing up to make their son’s day extra special.

Although Princess Kate has previously let slip some traditions the couple have in their household, one tradition was introduced by William’s late mother, Princess Diana when he was young.

Julia Samuel, Prince George’s godparent, likes to give him “impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making,” which Prince William finds challenging.

As reported by the Mirror, Ms Samuel said: “I do to George what [Diana] did to us, which is give impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making.

“William then has to spend days putting them together. And then put all the machinery together, and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that.”

She added that while William struggles for days on end to put together the tricky toys, the rest of the family takes great pleasure in watching him squirm – noting that this included “cheeky” George. She explained that it “makes [her] laugh, and it makes George laugh.”

Whilst previously appearing as a guest on the podcast How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, Julia described her young godson – who was born on July 22, 2013 – as “amazing”.

She added; “He’s funny and feisty and cheeky and God she [Diana] would have loved him so much. That is heartbreaking for all of them.”

William has previously shared that he does all he can to ensure that his children know of their late grandmother, who passed away in 1997.

During an appearance in the 2017 ITV documentary ‘Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy’, William “So we’ve got more photos up round the house now of her and we talk about her a bit and stuff.

The Princess of Wales previously revealed that she has her own sweet tradition for all three of her children’s birthdays – she stays up late the evening before to bake a homemade cake.

Appearing on Mary Berry’s A Berry Royal Christmas in 2019, Kate said that she stays up baking until midnight on the eve of her children’s birthdays each year.

She said: “I love making the cake. It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ‘til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.”
