I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! winner Sam Thompson has broken his silence after girlfriend Zara McDermott spoke out about her experience on Strictly Come Dancing.
Sam Thompson has proudly stood by his girlfriend Zara McDermott during the recent Strictly Come Dancing controversy, declaring “so proud” of her amidst the turmoil.
Former Love Island star Zara, 27, bravely shared with fans that she was “too scared” to speak out about the alleged unfair treatment she faced last year on the show.
Her dance partner Graziano Di Prima will not return for the next series.
Sam, acclaimed winner of I’m A Celebrity, and a regular in the Strictly audience supporting Zara and Graziano, took to Instagram to throw his backing behind Zara.
Despite whispers of relationship woes and potential split, Sam showcased his unwavering support through a video featuring Zara’s Look Fantastic advertising campaign splashed across the London Underground.
Proudly captioning the footage, Sam wrote: “So proud of you goose @zaramcdermott,” garnishing the sentiment with a heart and a crying emoji. In the video itself, Sam can be heard telling another passenger that Zara is his “missus”, amusingly remarking in the caption: “Explaining to the bloke I know here and I’m not weird,” accompanied by a laughing emoji.
Ever since the disclosure of the unsettling incident involving Graziano’s supposed misconduct with the celebrated Love Island participant – for which the Italian dancer expressed ‘deep regret’ via social media – Zara has been overwhelmed with expressions of support and solidarity.
Earlier this week, the former Love Island star Zara McDermott shared a candid confession with her Instagram followers.
She expressed that although being on Strictly Come Dancing was a “dream come true”, her training sessions turned out to be somewhat of a nightmare.
Zara revealed: “So much of my Strictly experience was everything I could have dreamt of. The entire production team and everyone behind the scenes as well as my fellow contestants were so amazing to work with.
“However, my experience inside the training room was very different.
“Reports have been made about my treatment on the show and there were witnesses to some events, as well as videos of particular incidents which are incredibly distressing to watch.”
She continued: “I have wrestled with the fear of opening up- I was scared about public backlash, I was scared about my future, I was scared of victim shaming.
“But after a lot of conversations with those I love, I’ve gained the strength to face these fears, and when I was asked to speak to the BBC, I spoke candidly about my time on the show.”
The BBC will introduce chaperons to attend training sessions during the upcoming series, it was confirmed earlier this week.
